Bearded dragons come from the arid regions of Australia , where it is hot and dry . Adult bearded dragons can reach 18-23 inches long and can live up to 12 years. Bearded dragons can be housed in groups , however, you may encounter some problems when you do observe their behaviour and if all are interacting well and without fight.
Adults can sleep out in winter , which is similar to hibernation . When bearded dragons are in period of sleep they usually will not eat and are more inactive during the day . This winter slowdown is normal and you need to reduce the temperature of the terrarium at 75 - 80F degrees during the day and 60 - 70F degrees at night . This slowdown period can last 1-4 months . You will notice increased activity when this period is over, this time you need to increase the temperature to normal.
The long rest is an example of dormancy in reptiles that is similar to hibernation . It differs from hibernation in the metabolic processes involved .
